Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Pick 3. The answers will give you information about purchasing tickets, choosing play types and claiming prizes.
There is one Pick 3 drawing every night in Washington. The draw time is 8 p.m.
Ticket sale cut-off time is 7:45 p.m. Sales resume a minute later for the next day’s drawing.
There are three basic steps to playing Pick 3 - select a play type, choose how much to bet, and pick your numbers. You can select your own three numbers between 0 and 9 (or two if you are playing a Pair), or you can get a Quick Pick for a random set.
You can play a Straight, Box, Straight/Box, Superbox, Front Pair or Back Pair. Go to the How to Play page for more information about each method. If you're playing a Box, Straight/Box or Superbox, it is important to know whether you have a 3-Way combination or not.
In a 3-Way play, two of your three numbers are the same, for example, 110, 747 or 911. The other type of combination is to have three unique numbers, such as 123 or 654, which has six ways of being ordered (123, 132, 213, 231, 312 and 321).
You can decide whether to pay $0.50 or $1 if you play a Straight, Box, Front Pair, Back Pair or Superbox. For a Superbox, the total cost will be between $1.50 and $6, depending on the amount you select and whether you play a 3-Way or a 6-Way, as you enter each combination separately. A Straight/Box is fixed $1 per play.
To win a prize, you have to match all three numbers (or the two you have specified if you are playing a Pair). You need to match the numbers according to the conditions of your play type, for example you must get them exactly in the correct positions if you play a Straight.
The amount you can win depends on your play type and how much you bet. The maximum prize is $500, if you play a Straight and wager $1. Go to the Payouts page to see all the prize amounts.
The odds of matching all three numbers exactly are 1 in 1,000. Your chances of winning are better for any other play type apart from a Straight.
